CELEBRATING SELF-EXPRESSION WITH PRIDE
THE BRIEF
Professional makeup artistry brand Illamasqua came to The Digital Fairy with a wide-open brief: to make a storytelling film celebrating pride, with complete creative freedom in the execution of the film. Our mission was to tell stories that would allow an underrepresented audience to feel heard, a series that would subvert the disingenuous and cliched content that often appears during pride month, by the queer community for the queer community.
WHAT WE DID
We handed much of the creative reins to storytellers from within the LGBTQIA+ community, led by director Ben Cole. This creative collaboration extended to the involvement of our casted talent, supporting them to tell their stories the way they wanted to, in places that made them feel safe and empowered. Together, we created a series of colourful vignettes that centred the talent, the ways they navigate and express their identity, their queerness and the topic of beauty.
THE CONCEPT
We created a series of videos to celebrate beauty as a means of self-expression. Teaming up with director Ben Cole we produced a series of vignettes and interviews based around the stories and loves of six individuals, all part of the LGBTQIA+ community. The inspiration behind the series was to create something authentic by the queer community for the queer community, in turn allowing those involved to share their stories and have their voices heard.
